On the 24th, Shumei University successfully held an information session at Waseda Foreign Language School in Tokyo. The event was conducted twice, in the morning and afternoon, providing attendees with comprehensive details on the latest admissions trends, campus facilities, and academic programs. The session was met with enthusiastic responses from participants.
In particular, international students from China, Vietnam, Nepal, and other countries showed great interest in the university’s academic programs. One of the highlights was Shumei University’s unique study-abroad program, which allows students to study in the UK during their undergraduate years. Many attendees actively asked questions and participated in individual consultations regarding this opportunity.
A representative from Waseda Foreign Language School commented, “Through this session, we gained a better understanding of Shumei University’s distinctive overseas study system and comprehensive student support programs. We look forward to further strengthening the collaboration between our institutions.”
Located in Yachiyo City, Chiba Prefecture, Shumei University focuses on practical, career-oriented education, offering specialized programs in business management, tourism, IT, and English communication. The university also provides an opportunity for students to study abroad at Chaucer College Canterbury in the UK, fostering global perspectives.
Japanese language courses are designed for different proficiency levels and are conducted in small classes of 15 to 20 students, ensuring personalized instruction. In addition, the university implements a homeroom teacher system that provides academic and personal support to students.
Shumei University actively supports students in acquiring professional certifications to enhance their employability. In addition to preparation for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT N1/N2), the university offers courses for the Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT), accounting and IT certifications, and tourism-related qualifications. Students who obtain designated certifications are eligible for a study encouragement grant.
The university also has a Career Support Center, which provides one-on-one career counseling, job fairs, and mock interviews. Special emphasis is placed on assisting international students who wish to pursue careers in Japan.
Currently, Shumei University has approximately 300 international students from over 10 countries, including Vietnam, China, and Nepal. By studying alongside Japanese students, international students can not only improve their language skills but also gain a deeper understanding of different cultural backgrounds, enhancing their global competence.
The university provides free shuttle bus services from major stations such as Katsutadai Station on the Keisei Lineand Chiba New Town Chuo Station on the Hokuso Line, ensuring easy access for students. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a library, a tourism business training room (“World Room”), an IT-equipped Media Garden, and a fitness center.
Admissions for international students are categorized into three types:
- Designated School Recommendation Admission
- Public Recommendation Admission
- General Admission
All applicants are required to take a Japanese language written test, undergo an interview, and submit supporting documents. A minimum JLPT N2 proficiency level is recommended for eligibility. Scholarship opportunities are available for students admitted through the recommendation-based admission system, reducing tuition costs and financial burden.
Through these initiatives, Shumei University continues to strengthen its global presence, providing international students with valuable opportunities for academic and career success in Japan.
